Salome and Gogo Visit Soweto is a delightful little book aiming at teaching children about life in Soweto in Johannesburg, South Africa. Gogo is a common word used for Grandmother in Johannesburg. I enjoyed visiting Soweto with Salome and Gogo in a pink mini-bus taxi, the popular mode of transport in South Africa, and learning some new things about the food and music of this vibrant city. Salome gets to taste vetkoek and syrup, a traditional South African dish, as well as enjoy a Kota sandwich which was something new to me too.

The book is beautifully illustrated by Julie Sneeden and the bright and colourful pictures will capture any child’s heart and mind.
