The Lamp Burns Brightly by Elise Robbins

Joanna's life as a Victorian socialite has become boring. Much as she loves her sister, Olivia, who dazzles society, she does not want to do the same. She has heard how Florence Nightingale is training nurses to take to the Crimea and decides to join them. In a foreign country and in the midst of battle she finds heartache, surprise, suspense and love.

I loved this wonderful, historical novel that takes place during the Crimean War. So well written, moving, funny at times, romantic — I couldn't put it down. I also learned a great deal. Highly recommended!
